Friday Finishes #40: Rock The ‘Stache

Rock the 'Stache

Today’s Finish!

Today’s Friday Finish is a fun quick stitch I did as a gift for a guy. You don’t find many kits, mini or otherwise, that are good presents for men.

Name of Piece: HD45759 Mustache

Designed by: No designer listed!

Chart or Kit?: Mini Kit

Distributed as a kit by Plaid Bucilla.

Kit Contains: 3 in x 3 in frame, 100% cotton white Aida cloth, floss, needle, chart

Finished Size: 2 1/16 inches by 2 9/16 inches

The Story: I’m always on the lookout for a good piece to stitch for men. Pieces they won’t think are too girly or subjects they aren’t interested in. I knew when I saw this mini kit that this is one of those rare pieces! I had to have it. And when the time came to stitch  some Christmas gifts for some of the men in my life, this kit moved to the top of the must do list!

You can follow along on the progress on this piece below:

Progress Report: Rock the ‘Stache, Start to Finish

Time To Complete: Actual stitching took about five hours; I did multiple stitching sessions so it took about four days to stitch.

Review: The only downside to stitching this piece was all of the fractionals in the letters and in the mustache itself. They make the piece look awesome, but they are a pain to stitch on Aida! Otherwise all the stitching on this piece was smooth sailing. No counting issues, and the back-stitch makes the piece pop.

I did debate on adding the two square black stitches that are spattered all over the piece. I didn’t know whether I liked how they looked. In the end I decided to go with the designer’s judgement and add them on. But if you’re like me and you’re iffy about them, I think it’s safe to also leave them off the finish.

Final Verdict: If you are on the lookout for a piece to stitch for a guy, this mini kit fits the bill! I ended up giving it away as a Christmas gift to a guy who loved it. Mustaches are cool!

Friday Finishes is a segment where I catalog and review all the cross-stitch pieces I have ever completed. Some of the pieces I no longer have information on, or I don’t have pictures because I gave away the piece as a gift and forgot to take a picture, but I’ll do my best to be as informative as possible! Check back on Fridays for more.
