Friday Finishes #30: Little Miss Crafty

Today's Finish!

Today’s Finish!

Today’s Friday Finishes was a really fun little piece to stitch! When I saw the kit I immediately had to buy it. It’s really simple, so it was a fast stitch, and of course I love the subject matter!

Name of Piece: HD45739 “Little Miss Crafty”

Designed by: The kit doesn’t list a designer.

Distributed as a kit by Plaid Bucilla.

Kit Contains: 3 in. by 3 in. frame, 14 ct. 100% cotton white Aida cloth, floss, needle, chart

Finished Size: 3 inches square

The Story: I remember when this kit came out. Joann Fabrics no longer carries mini kits as a part of their regular inventory (at least, the stores by me don’t), so imagine my surprise when I scope the store and discover these Bucilla kits on display in funky packaging! Little Miss Crafty was the one I HAD to buy and I bought it on the spot… along with one of almost everything else they had hanging on the display. (I am a mini kit hoarder, I love them to death and since they’re harder and harder to find these days I always collect as many as I can.) It wasn’t too long after I bought it that I opened it and stitched on it!

You can see this piece unfold in its entirety here: Progress Report: Little Miss Crafty, Start To Finish.

Time To Complete: I need to keep better track of my time… I’d say total stitch time, a few hours at most over the course of a few days. I didn’t complete it in one sitting.

Review: The subject matter is what really drew me to the kit. I LOVE pieces that have some reference to crafting or stitching in them. They’re so fun!

I also really like these new Bucilla kits. The instructions that come with them can be slightly difficult to follow, because they don’t separate out the different languages from one another, they keep everything next to each other; but, other than that, the instructions are very thorough and the print is easy to read! At least for me. I really like the new style for the kits. I hope they keep it.

The finished piece!

Final Verdict: This piece is almost entirely backstitch and French knots; there’s maybe 50 stitches in the actual piece? As a result, it was a really fast piece to stitch. On the downside, if backstitch and French knots are your least favorite thing to do in cross stitch, this kit would NOT have been any fun for you to make.

Have you done this kit before? How did it go for you? How did you like it, or not like it, as the case may be?  Leave a comment below or head on over to our Facebook page and tell us how it went!

Friday Finishes is a segment where I catalog and review all the cross-stitch pieces I have ever completed. Some of the pieces I no longer have information on, or I don’t have pictures because I gave away the piece as a gift and forgot to take a picture, but I’ll do my best to be as informative as possible! Check back on Fridays for more.
