Friday Finishes #2: Love Bug
Today’s Friday Finishes once again heads back into the past to take a look at the second piece I ever finished. I no longer have the information on this kit (it must’ve been thrown away once I finished with it) but I do have Google to point me to the details!
Name of Piece: Love Bug
Designed by: It doesn’t say, this seems to be a common occurrence with most kits.
Distributed as a kit by NeedleMagic Inc.
Kit Contains: 14 ct. Aida fabric, thread, needle, graph, frame, self-adhesive mounting board, and instructions.
Finished Size: 3 inches round
The Story: I have no idea how I got a hold of this kit. I guess when I first started into cross-stitching people went out and bought me lots of kits, some way out of my skill and age range, and this was one of them. (This was 11 years ago and kits were still easily found in big retail chains.) It was the day before my 12th birthday when I pulled this kit out of my stitching box and started on it. I don’t know why I randomly felt the urge to stitch, because there was a three year difference between finishing the Smiley Flower and starting this kit. It seems like this kit is just full of mysteries! But regardless, I spent most of the night stitching away and got up early for school and finished it the next day.
Time To Complete: 2 days (most of one night and the morning of the next)
Review: This kit was relatively simple and easy to follow. There’s only two main colors on the lady bug so I didn’t have much trouble having to switch between them. I made a mistake on one of the corners (as you can probably see in the picture) and that’s really my only regret on the piece because at the time, I didn’t know how to fix it. This was also the first piece I ever attempted backstitch on, and it went really, really well in my opinion since the backstitch was so simple. Although no one told me to do the crosses first and the backstitch later! So I did great on the backstitch for the letters but the crosses inside are messed up. I also didn’t know that the cardboard that came with the kit was actually the backing for the frame, and I threw it away!
Final Verdict: I had a great time doing this kit, and I recommend that if you or a relative or a friend loves lady bugs, to find this kit and do it yourself! Now, this kit is actually out of print, BUT a new version was created and released by Janlynn and can be easily found. (I was so excited when I found the new version of this kit – except a Friday Finishes on that soon!)
Have you done this kit before? How did it go for you? How did you like it, or not like it, as the case may be? Leave a comment below or head on over to our Facebook page and tell us how it went!
Friday Finishes is a segment where I catalog and review all the cross-stitch pieces I have ever completed. Some of the pieces I no longer have information on, or I don’t have pictures because I gave away the piece as a gift and forgot to take a picture, but I’ll do my best to be as informative as possible! Check back on Fridays for more.
