Friday Finishes #14: Noah’s Ark

The finished piece!

Today’s Finish!

Today’s Friday Finishes is a really cute little piece and is number four in the Mini Kits Series!

Name of Piece: Item #021-1389 Noah’s Ark

Designed by: Kit still doesn’t say.

Distributed as a kit by Janlynn Company under their Design for the Needle series.

Kit Contains: 18-count aida fabric, 6 strands embroidery floss, frame, self-adhesive mounting board, needle, graph, & instructions

Finished Size: 2.5 inches round

The Story: So this was in the pile of kits I picked up for the Mini Kits Series, where I bought a bunch of mini kits at the same time with the intent to stitch them all. I grabbed it because I thought it was cute! And I was impressed with the level of detail in a kit so small. The problem with the mini projects is that it’s hard to get a lot of detail into space that small, but this kit looked cute and seemed to have a lot more detail than most of the other kits did. I mean tiny animals that actually look like animals, how much more detailed can you get?

Time To Complete: Around a week.

Review: Well, the actual stitching on this was pretty easy. I think I had some trouble with tangling threads? But I don’t remember having much trouble with it. I stitched the majority of this while I was at work during slow times (this was when I still worked at the thrift store) and a lot of people admired it when I stitched it!

There was a lot of back-stitch on this, a lot more than I like in these small kits… but I guess that level of detail has a trade-off. So I would recommend this kit for beginners only if they’ve got a handle on back-stitch or they want something to practice their skills with.

My biggest problem with this kit was the framing, as you can probably see in the picture. For some reason, even though I thought I had traced and cut out the circle correctly, when I placed the piece on the backing and the backing in the frame, it was way too high up in the frame. I just got it so the clouds and the bird weren’t covered by the frame. It was supposed to be the other way round, with the water much closer to the bottom and giving the top some space. I tried to fix it, but I didn’t do a very good job and it didn’t make much of a difference.

Final Verdict: Despite my few problems, I really enjoy the look of this piece! As far as I know this kit is still very much in print, so you can buy it for yourself if you want to stitch it!

Friday Finishes is a segment where I catalog and review all the cross-stitch pieces I have ever completed. Some of the pieces I no longer have information on, or I don’t have pictures because I gave away the piece as a gift and forgot to take a picture, but I’ll do my best to be as informative as possible! Check back on Fridays for more.
