Friday Finishes #9: Wooper Love

A few pictures of the finished piece!

My own design!

Today’s Friday Finishes is all about the first cross-stitch piece I ever designed myself!

Name of Piece: Wooper Love

Designed by: Me! Using KG-Chart LE

Finished Size: I have no clue… 3 inches round maybe?

The Story: Not long after I finished my Corinthians piece for my boyfriend, I wanted to make him something else. Something decidedly much smaller than than the BAP I’d made him before. One of the things I wanted to make him was a Pokemon cross-stitch piece. Pokemon is a video game series we’ve both been playing since we were very young, and a game we play together and talk about all the time. Wooper is our favorite Pokemon. So it’s only natural that I found a sprite for Wooper and tried to convert it into cross-stitch! Cross-stitch is practically just pixel art anyway, so despite having no skills in chart-making I found a free charting program (KG-Chart LE) and tried my hand!

Time To Complete: I’d say roughly 2 hours to chart and maybe 4 or 5 to stitch? It was a quick project.

Review: Well, my skills in color correcting when converting pictures into charts isn’t the best. The blue Wooper turned out great, as well as the pixel heart, but the pink Wooper didn’t fare well in the color conversion. I didn’t really know any better when looking at the chart so this is about as good as it was gonna get.

I think this was the first project I ever stitched on evenweave, and that was before I knew the difference between evenweave and aida. That’s probably why the picture is so small, I stitched it 1 over 1 since I thought this was just really small aida and not evenweave.

The roughest part of this project was the framing, honestly. I got done and wanted to frame it in a creative way but didn’t know how. I ended up needing two pairs of hands to help me staple the ribbon to the project and then tied the extra into a bow and glued it down. It… wasn’t the best way to go about it, but I didn’t know what else to do at the time.

Final Verdict: If you want a Pokemon chart of your own, the best place to go is Birdie Stitching! She’s charted hundreds of the Pokemon sprites as well as other video games and they’re always free to download. All in all my boyfriend loved his Woopers and it’s hanging alongside the Corinthians piece I made him!

Have you done this kit before? How did it go for you? How did you like it, or not like it, as the case may be?  Leave a comment below or head on over to our Facebook page and tell us how it went!

Friday Finishes is a segment where I catalog and review all the cross-stitch pieces I have ever completed. Some of the pieces I no longer have information on, or I don’t have pictures because I gave away the piece as a gift and forgot to take a picture, but I’ll do my best to be as informative as possible! Check back on Fridays for more.
